Indian company evicts Ugandan citizens for mega rice farms!doneer nu
Lajago Women, an Ugandan organization that struggles against land grabbing in the Nwoya district, has sounded the alarm about the Indian company Tahir’s plans to set up a mega rice farm in the region.
Tahir plans to establish a farm of about 432 acres in the Ayago wetlands, but these wetlands do not come close to comprising this amount of land. Lajago Women therefore suspect that the company aims to evict residents from the surrounding lands in order to complete their mega project.
Het Actiefonds supports their struggle to defend their land rights. Mega rice farms uproot the citizens of Nwoya, heavily disrupt biodiversity and contribute considerably to global warming.
