Het Actiefonds supports social movements around the world by providing small-scale grants for direct actions.

Guiding principles of Het Actiefonds

Autonomy

We remain free from state and corporate influence on our (funding) decisions

Solidarity

We provide solidarity, not charity. We stand next to the people we support, not above them.

Non-hierarchical

We work with a self-managed, horizontal staff and a board at a distance.

Liberation and democracy

We support liberation movements and anyone fighting for a better world from the bottom-up. To us, democracy means a permanent process of people’s participation rather than getting to vote every few years.

Trust-based funding and participatory grant making

We don’t tell movements what to do, we make sure they have the means to do what they think is best.
We make sure the applications get judged by peers, the people who decide on the applications are radical activists who know the regional context from personal experience.

Radical, anti-capitalist and critical

We support what others deem too radical: direct action that confronts and disrupts the status quo. We don’t support attempts to green-, pink- or otherwise culture-wash the companies, governments or people in power.

Intersectional, social and ecological justice

We acknowledge every struggle is connected. We explicitly support people who are defending and liberating their land from destruction, pollution and colonization. We don’t support groups who exclude or discriminate other groups.

Fast

We provide fast funding for specific actions and make sure we have an application process that does not ask too much of the activists.
